Control of pull-in dynamics in a nonlinear thermoelastic electrically actuated microbeam

چکیده
This work deals with the problem of controlling the nonlinear dynamics, in general, and the dynamic pull-in, in particular, of an electrically actuated microbeam. A single-well softening model recently proposed by Gottlieb and Champneys [1] is considered, and a control method previously proposed by the authors is applied. Homoclinic bifurcation, which triggers the safe basin erosion eventually leading to pull-in, is considered as the undesired event, and it is shown how appropriate controlling superharmonics added to a reference harmonic excitation succeed in shifting it towards higher excitation amplitudes. An optimization problem is formulated, and the optimal excitation shape is obtained. Extensive numerical simulations aimed at checking the effectiveness of the control method in shifting the erosion of the safe basin are reported. They highlight good performances of the control method beyond theoretical expectations. (Some figures in this article are in colour only in the electronic version)

Mechanical Behavior of an Electrostatically-Actuated Microbeam under Mechanical Shock
In this paper static and dynamic responses of a fixed-fixed microbeam to electrostatic force and mechanical shock for different cases have been studied. The governing equations whose solution holds the answer to all our questions about the mechanical behavior is the nonlinear elasto-electrostatic equations. Due to the nonlinearity and complexity of the derived equations analytical solution are ...

This paper presents a novel robust fractional PIλ controller design for flexible joint electrically driven robots. Because of using voltage control strategy, the proposed approach is free of problems arising from torque control strategy in the design and implementation. In fact, the motor's current includes the effects of nonlinearities and coupling in the robot manipulator. Therefore, cancella...

Electrostatically actuated microbeams have been studied by many researchers in the last few years. The aim of this study is to present an improved numerical analysis of the dynamic instability of a cantilever microbeam immersed in an incompressible viscous fluid. The finite element method is used for solving the vibrational equation of the microbeam and the potential functions of the fluids in ...
متن کاملEffect of thermoelastic damping in nonlinear beam model of MEMS resonators by differential quadrature method
This paper presents a nonlinear model of a clamped-clamped microbeam actuated by an electrostatic load with stretching and thermoelastic effects. The frequency of free vibration is calculated by discretization based on the Differential Quadrature (DQ) Method. The frequency is a complex value due to the thermoelastic effect that dissipates energy. By separating the real and imaginary parts of fr...
